April Weaver

In July 2021, Senator April Weaver was elected to serve Alabama’s 14th Senate District, which includes portions of Shelby, Bibb, and Chilton Counties. Prior to joining the upper chamber, she previously served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 2010-2020, where she became the first woman in state history to serve as the Chair of the House Health Committee.

Following her service in the House, Weaver was appointed by President Donald J. Trump as regional director of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Region IV where she was responsible for leading the agency’s efforts in eight southern states, as well as the six federally recognized Indian tribes located within the region.

A nurse who holds bachelors and masters degrees in Business Administration, she has been instrumental in shaping healthcare policy throughout Alabama for more than a decade. Weaver has more than 25 years of leadership experience in healthcare administration and is currently the only Republican woman serving in the Alabama Senate.
