Michael Lanahan is the Founder and CEO of Government Executive Coach, a trusted partner for government leaders navigating the high-stakes world of public service. Michael is the author of The State Government Leader Playbook, a roadmap for state agency leaders built from the wisdom of over 30 of the country’s best agency leaders from conservative administrations.

A former state government executive and recovering attorney, Michael has firsthand experience navigating the complexities of public leadership. He led a major reorganization effort, spearheaded an agency turnaround, and managed statewide initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, he partners with executives, boards, and teams across public and private sectors to drive transformation, build trust, and create lasting results.

Michael is a proud graduate of The University of Missouri and The University of Chicago Law School. He lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with his wife and three sons.
