Veteran Free Market Advocate and Former DOJ Official, Mary Thomas Set to Lead Educational Arm of Club for Growth
WASHINGTON, DC – Mary Thomas, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the United States Department of Justice and a veteran conservative and free market advocate has been named the Executive Director of The Club for Growth Foundation, the educational arm of the Club for Growth. Politico’s Playbook published an exclusive report on the announcement.
“Throughout her nearly two-decades of political and public service, Mary has been a strong voice for free market capitalism as the bedrock of growth and prosperity for America. During her time in federal and state government service and as a candidate for Congress, Mary has distinguished herself as a leader who steadfastly defends and promotes capitalism and American values,” said Club for Growth Foundation President David McIntosh.
“My journey in the conservative movement is unique and allows me to connect with a wider range of people. I first learned about the principles of economic freedom and limited government from my parents, who came to this country legally from India in search of the American Dream. They were able to build a successful family business through hard work, self-sufficiency, and decreased government intervention in the marketplace. Thanks to my parents’ example, I have worked tirelessly throughout my career to promote economic freedom, limited government, and an appreciation of our American system of government,” Mary Thomas said.
In government, as a General Counsel for then-Governor Rick Scott (R-FL) and as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, Mary led regulatory reform initiatives, implemented performance measures for grant programs to ensure that they were effective and not a waste of taxpayer resources, and worked to decrease government intervention in various legal and policy areas.
At the Club for Growth Foundation, Mary directs a 501(c)(3) organization focused on: educating the public about the value of free markets, pro-growth policies, and economic prosperity; conducts public policy research; hosts conferences and forums; and produces a variety of publications to keep the public engaged and informed on the most important free-market issues facing our country, including the publication of the Foundation’s state and federal legislative scorecards.
