Club for Growth Foundation Releases 2023 Indiana State Economic Scorecard

Washington, D.C. – The Club for Growth Foundation has published its 2023 Indiana state economic scorecard, offering Hoosiers a detailed analysis on where their legislators stand on economic policy.

The Club for Growth Foundation’s founding mission is to inform the public about the benefits of free-market economics and limited government. By making the information in its scorecards widely available, the Club for Growth Foundation provides Hoosiers, and Americans across the country, with a comprehensive breakdown of each lawmakers voting record on key issues.

The Foundation conducted a thorough examination of each legislator’s record on votes related to pro-growth economic policies and calculated an Economic Growth Score on a scale of 0 to 100. A score of 100 indicates the highest support for pro-growth economic policies. This year, the Club for Growth Foundation evaluated over 950 floor votes and, in the end, included 15 Indiana House votes and 15 Indiana Senate votes. These votes included support for a prohibition on taxpayer financed ESG investments as well as for significant state regulatory reform. The Foundation scored in opposition to the biennial budget that presented a 19.3% increase from the previous biennium that included a 58% increase in funding for economic development initiatives, a 44% increase in Medicaid spending, and an 11% increase in K-12. Though the budget included expanded access to school choice programs and expedites the previous income tax reduction, the substantial increase in baseline spending threatens Indiana’s long-term economic outlook.

“The goal of the Club for Growth Foundation is to create a better educated population and to enlighten Hoosiers, and Americans across the country, on the advantages of free market economics and fiscal responsibility,” said Club for Growth President Foundation David McIntosh. “As a fellow Hoosier, it’s disappointing to see that Indiana ranks among the lowest performing states on the Foundation’s annual scorecard series. The Foundation’s report offers a heightened level of transparency that gives the public a firsthand look into where legislators stand on the policies that affect them the most.”

Club for Growth Foundation plans to release similar scorecards for state legislatures across the country.
