Washington, D.C. – The Club for Growth Foundation released its 2024 Florida State Economic Scorecard, providing Floridians with an in-depth analysis of how individual state legislators approach economic policies. The Capitolist’s Brian Burgess covered the release in an exclusive report.
The Foundation’s mission is to inform the public on the virtues of economic freedom and limited government. By publishing the Florida State Economic Scorecard, the Foundation enables Floridians, and Americans nationwide, to see how legislative decisions impact their economic freedom.
The Foundation conducted a detailed examination of each legislator’s voting record on policies affecting economic growth, calculating an Economic Growth Score on a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 representing the highest support for economic freedom. In 2024, the Scorecard assessed over 800 votes and included 16 Florida House votes and 13 Florida Senate votes.
Notable votes included support for legislation that would increase education freedom for families and children by making the Family Empowerment Scholarship available to 71,000 additional students with disabilities, as well as support for a fiscally responsible budget that cut tolling fees and taxes by roughly $740 million while reducing the state debt by $500 million. The Club for Growth Foundation also opposed a protectionist bill that would require all steel for public works projects to be made and sourced in the United States, resulting in an estimated 20% price increase.
“Through these scorecards, the Club for Growth Foundation offers Floridians a transparent look at how state policies impact economic opportunity and growth,” said Club for Growth Foundation President David McIntosh. “In 2024, while we saw positive initiatives from some lawmakers, there is still work to be done to foster an economic environment that benefits all Floridians. Both chambers of the Florida Legislature must continue to promote legislation that safeguards and promotes individual liberties and economic freedom for its citizens.”
The Club for Growth Foundation will continue to release similar scorecards for other states across the country.
