Club for Growth Foundation Releases 2024 Missouri State Economic Scorecard

Washington, D.C. — The Club for Growth Foundation has released its 2024 Missouri State Economic Scorecard, offering residents of the Show-Me State a detailed analysis into where each lawmaker stands on policies related to economic growth.

The mission of the Club for Growth Foundation is to educate the public on the benefits of a free-market, limited government approach to economic policy. By making these scorecard results easily accessible, the Club for Growth Foundation provides Missourians, and Americans across the country, with a look into where each member of the state legislature stands on critical legislation that directly affects Missouri’s economic health.

The Foundation conducted a thorough examination of each legislator’s record on votes related to policies that either promote or undermine economic growth and calculated an Economic Growth Score on a scale of 0 to 100. A score of 100 indicates the highest support for economic freedom. This year, the Club for Growth Foundation evaluated 354 floor votes and, in the end, included 19 Missouri State House votes and 8 Missouri State Senate votes in its 2024 analysis. These votes included support for legislation that would eliminate Missouri’s corporate income tax by 2028, which would save businesses an estimated $2.6 billion, as well as a bill that increases eligibility for the Missouri Empowerment Scholarship program from 200% to 300% of the federal poverty rate. Votes also included opposition to a massive taxpayer funded, employer based childcare welfare expansion that would pass costs down to consumers and drive down business.

“By widely distributing the results of its state scorecard series, the Club for Growth Foundation provides Missourians with the empirical data and descriptions of where each legislator stands on economic policy when voting in Jefferson City,” said Club for Growth Foundation President David McIntosh. “This year, members of the Missouri State House and State Senate voted on bills aimed at boosting economic growth across the state, including a plan to eliminate Missouri’s corporate income tax and to provide more freedom and opportunity for parents and students by expanding access to the Missouri Empowerment Scholarship program. Though these proposals push Missouri toward a path of economic prosperity, there were a number of votes that should be a cause for concern in the state, including an employer-based child welfare program that would pass costs onto consumers and drive down business. Legislators in the Show-Me State should look for more opportunities to cut taxes and expand freedom to ensure economic prosperity for future generations.”

Club for Growth Foundation is releasing similar scorecards for state legislatures across the country. In 2023, the Club for Growth Foundation released state level scorecards in 22 states.
