Club for Growth Foundation Releases 2024 Virginia State Economic Scorecard

Washington, D.C. The Club for Growth Foundation released its 2024 Virginia State Economic Scorecard, offering citizens of the Old Dominion an in-depth assessment of how individual legislators approach key economic policies.

The Club for Growth Foundation’s mission is to educate the public on the virtues of economic freedom and limited government. By making the Virginia State Economic Scorecard results easily accessible, the Foundation provides Virginians, and Americans across the country, with insights into how these policies impact their lives.

The Foundation conducted a detailed examination of each legislator’s voting record on policies affecting economic growth, calculating an Economic Growth Score on a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 representing the highest support for economic freedom. This year, the Scorecard evaluated over 4,100 votes and included 20 Virginia House votes and 19 Virginia Senate votes. These votes included opposition to a $177 billion biennium budget increase that included a $1 billion sales tax hike, as well as opposition to a statewide local tax increase allowing municipalities to impose a 1% sales tax for school construction and capital improvement projects.

“Through our scorecard series, the Club for Growth Foundation equips Virginians with the tools to understand how their state legislators are shaping or threatening economic freedom,” said Club for Growth Foundation President David McIntosh. “In 2024, it was disappointing to see neither the Virginia State House nor State Senate produce substantive legislation that would increase economic freedom in the Commonwealth. Despite this concern, there are at least 10 state legislators who received a score of 90% or above, setting the standard for pushing back against the ever-increasing threat of government.”

The Foundation plans to release similar scorecards for other states across the country.
