Club for Growth Foundation Releases 2023 Utah State Economic Scorecard

Washington, D.C. – Club for Growth Foundation has released its 2023 Utah State Economic Scorecard, providing an increased level of transparency for Utahns to gain understanding into how their lawmakers view economic policy in the state.

The goal of the Club for Growth Foundation is to educate the public on the advantages of free-market economic and limited government principles. At both the federal and state levels, the legislative process is filled with political jargon and backroom deals, hindering citizens from having a clear understanding of legislation that impacts their daily lives. By publishing its report and making this information easily accessible, the Club for Growth Foundation provides Americans across the country with an in-depth analysis into how their legislators view key policies.

The Foundation conducted a thorough examination of each lawmaker’s economic voting record and calculated an Economic Growth Score on a scale of 0 to 100. A score of 100 indicates the highest support for pro-growth policies. This year, the Club for Growth Foundation evaluated over 1,850 floor votes and, in the end, included 16 Utah House votes and 14 Utah Senate votes. These votes included support for a significant tax reform package that is estimated to cut roughly $400 million in taxes for Utahns, as well as opposition to a massive spending blowout that increased the state budget by 16% from the previous year.

“The Club for Growth Foundation’s aim is to create a more informed population and to educate Utahns, as well as Americans across the country, about the benefits of free market economics,” said Club for Growth Foundation President David McIntosh. “By releasing its state level economic scorecards, the Foundation provides the transparency the people of Utah deserve for key legislation in the state. In a time of record inflation and skyrocketing costs, working families and households are struggling. Though the legislature brought much-needed tax relief, it did so by using temporary surpluses to create exorbitant new funding baselines in its spending bills instead of returning surpluses to the people through deeper tax cuts.”

Club for Growth Foundation plans to release similar scorecards for state legislatures across the country.
